MGB CEO TO PRESIDENCY OF IAGR
For immediate release
11 October 2015: A delegation from the Mpumalanga Gambling Board (“MGB”) led by Board chairperson, Norah Fakude-Nkuna, leaves tomorrow [Monday 12th] for Lima, in Peru, to attend the annual International Association of Gaming Regulators (“IAGR”) conference. The week-long conference will be attended by more than 150 delegates from around the world, and is set to name the MGB’s CEO, Bheki Mlambo, as the next President of the Association, during its annual business meeting on Wednesday.
Mlambo was elected Vice-President during the previous year’s conference held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and he automatically becomes the next President for 2015 and 2016. As the incoming President, Mlambo will lead the Association, which draws its membership from throughout the world including those in North America, Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa, Central America, the Caribbean and South America.
The significance of the Association to Africa and the rest of the world, according to Mlambo, is premised on the opportunity and platform to explore issues affecting gaming regulators, policymakers and industry executives in gambling markets around the world. The conference will focus on challenges faced by regulators as they seek to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of gambling oversight, said Mlambo.
The industry is often bedeviled by pockets of illegalities, such as unscrupulous and unsuitable activities throughout the world. Through the Association, we are able to collaborate on matters of mutual interest and deal with these activities, from illegal gambling, money laundering, sport and match fixing, and problem gambling, concluded Mlambo.
The delegation will return to South Africa next Monday with Mlambo at the helm of the world’s gambling regulators’ association.
