The Mpumalanga Gambling Board (“MGB”) announces with great pride, the election by the International Association of Gaming Regulators, Inc. (“IAGR”), of the CEO of the MGB, Mr. Bheki Mlambo, as its Vice-President.
The appointment was confirmed during IAGR’s 2014 annual conference held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, from 27 - 29 October 2014. Mr. Mlambo was unanimously elected by the IAGR’s Board of Trustees (“BOT”), alongside the newly elected President, Ms. Birgitte Sand of the Danish Gambling Authority. Both Mlambo and Sand, serve in the 14-member BOT and by virtue of their new portfolios, will be responsible for steering the association to advance the effectiveness and efficiency of gaming regulation across the globe and to create a forum in which gaming regulators from various countries can meet, exchange views and information, and discuss policy and regulatory issues.
IAGR has a membership of 59 jurisdictions and in excess of 300 members from across the globe, i.e. Asia/Oceania, North America (Canada / US / Mexico), Europe, Africa and Central America/Caribbean/South America. IAGR has created a means of fostering cooperation between gambling regulators across the world and serves as a central point of contact for inquiries by governments, gambling regulatory agencies and the international gambling industry.
Mr. Mlambo has been the CEO of the MGB for six years, during which period, the Board continued to maintain its record of unqualified and clean audit reports from the Auditor- General, while also effectively regulating the gambling industry in Mpumalanga. Mr. Mlambo is also the past Chairperson of the CEOs’ forum, where he serves with CEOs from all nine Gambling Boards in the Country and the National Gambling Board, developing common norms and standards for the regulation of the gambling industry in South Africa. He also serves in the Gambling Regulators Africa Forum (“GRAF”).
Responding to his new role, Mlambo said, “IAGR is well placed to make a significant impact on the rapidly developing gaming industry worldwide. As the only international organisation representing gambling regulators from all over the world, we have a unique opportunity to be a collective voice for our governments, through gambling regulation”.
“IAGR will continue to engage the industry and stakeholders to learn how best we can each put in place the appropriate regulations and guidelines to ensure that this highly technologically driven industry, conducts its business with due regard for those vulnerable in society and the protection of its customers”, continued Mlambo.
As the Provincial Gambling Board, we are indeed privileged and proud to have a person of Mr. Mlambo’s stature and integrity, leading the organisation. We are indeed hopeful that with a person of his calibre at the helm, the Board will continue to perform its mandate with distinction.
We wish Mr. Mlmabo all the best in this new responsibility. We have no doubt that he will acquit himself as proficiently in this new role as he has previously done in other strategic positions.
