About Mpumalanga Economic Regulator

The Mpumalanga Economic Regulator ("MER") has been charged with the responsibility to perform all functions assigned to it in terms of the Mpumalanga Gambling Act, 1995 (Act No 5 of 1995), as amended and the Mpumalanga Liquor Licensing Act, 2006 (Act No 5 of 2006) or any other legislation by advising, reporting or making recommendations to the Responsible Member on any matter relating to the regulation of the gambling and liquor industries in the Mpumalanga Province.

The MER in compliance with the Public Finance Management Act, 1999 (Act No. 1 of 1999), as amended (“PFMA”), in particular the provisions as contained in sections 50 and 51 thereof, is committed to the principles of openness, integrity and accountability.  Furthermore, the MER adheres to the principles of good governance, as reflected in the King IV Report on Governance for South Africa 2016 (“King IV Report”).
